On their fifth full length studio album, Devics seamlessly fuses Sara Lov’s angelic whisper-like voice with melody driven instrumental tracks. The record evokes a serene yet powerful vibe.
Lov’s enchanting vocal seizes and hypnotizes listeners, though at time, overshadows the beautiful piano arrangements in the background. However, as listeners crank the volume, the delicate details of the equally mesmerizing instrumental parts of the tracks will unfold.
“Push the Heart” starts off with “Lie to me”. It is one of those tracks that are hard to get sick of because it seems to metamorphosis every time you listen to it. No matter how many times it is played, it will always offer something new to the listeners. The next couple of songs are less effectively executed, nevertheless still decent. The main vocalist switches to Dustin O’Halloran, the other member of the Devics on “Song for a Sleeping Girl”. All I have to say is that O’Halloran is much better at making music than singing. However, the momentum is regained immediately when “Distant Radio”, arguably the best track on “Push the Heart” starts playing. The last half of the album also has some brilliant moments here and there; however, the later tracks cannot rival the earlier ones.
Although this might not be the typical album people would party or rock out to, musically speaking, it is nothing short of amazing
