Matthew Barber

Sweet Nothing

3/5

Key Tracks: Make it Right, Easy to fall

If you are used to listening to Ozzy or Metallica, this record is likely to put you to sleep, but if you just want to chill and relax to some easy listening, Sweet Nothing is your perfect album.

With up beat, sing along tracks like “Soft One”, “The Plea”, and “Make it Right”, and effusive balladry “Like Lightening” and “Morning Light”, the Canadian soft rock singer/song writer’s latest creation will not cease to please fans. Employing various instruments including key boards, acoustic and electric guitars, as well as percussion and drums, “Sweet Nothing” gives a light hearted folk vibe, and certainly a break from the mainstream music. The song writing aspect of the album is not complex or original even, but it did not need to be. The simple and almost cliché lyrics blend perfectly into the instruments and adds harmony to the songs.

For people who had never heard of Matthew Barber before, it does not hurt to give the record a try, you might be surprised. For long time fans of Barber and the genre, “Sweet Nothing” is definitely something you would want to add to your collection.
