Gilby Clarke

Self-Titled
2.5 /5
Gilby Clarke, to say the least, is having a triumphant comeback. He used to play guitar in a little band Guns N Roses (back in their prime), and then disappeared for a good ten years. He released some solo albums, and helped his friends out on their records, but no one cared about him; then he joins the show Rockstar:Supernova, along with Tommy Lee, and Jason Newsted. They picked fellow Canadian Lukas Rossi, to be the singer for them at the finale of their show, and are now on a North American tour. Some in between Gilby had time to write this hard-hitting Rock N Roll CD, which has some solid songs, and guest vocals by one of the competitors in Supernova, Dilana.
The first two tracks tend to blend together, but the track “Black” (featuring Dilana), is definitely one of the best tracks. Dilana takes over lead vocals, and Gilby sticks to the chorus’. “Black” is easily the best track on the record, followed by the worst track, “Skin n Bones,” where Gilby strapped on his cowboy boots, and Cowboy hat, and decided to do a ‘nice’ little country song.
When it got to, “Punk Rock Pollution” I was hoping it was a joke. He makes fun of the punk generation, and tries to create his own punk song. The song sounds like what would happen if Paul Wall went into punk. The next song, “Killroy Was Here” sings about how Killroy was here. Who’s Killroy? Why is he there? We don’t know, but he’s there. At the end of the 46 minutes, there is one great song, a few mediocre songs, and a bunch of garbage. I thought Axl Rose was destroying his career and credibility, but Gilby Clarke shot it down the drain with boring lyrics, basic song structure, and no originality.
The only songs I would recommend are “I’m Nobody” and “Black.” I’m very excited for Dilana’s solo CD, because from that one song, it shows she’ll have a good career.
