George Carlin

Life Is Worth Losing

4/5

Key tracks: Dumb American

Just as people thought that George Carlin, the veteran comedian, is ready to retire after a few decades or so in the business, he surprised fans with “Life is Worth Losing”. It is a show with more profanity, tackling more serious issues, in a funnier way than ever before.

Starting with “A Modern man”, where Carlin fires neoteric words at the audience for just short of four minutes. The record quickly takes off to the grave issue of suicide. In typical George Carlin fashion, the comedian delivers the wide spreading social issue to listeners. While the audience could reflect exactly who human beings are- superior of other creatures, or just the semi civilized beasts who practices assassination, torture, genocides, and cannibalism among others, they also get a good laugh as Carlin dishes out his witty play on the English language. If you keep on listening, you would hear the comedian poking fun at his fellow American citizens. Their obsessions with shopping and junk food, as well as their pointless emphasis on education were portrayed on “Dumb Americans” (which makes me wonder, exactly how similar are we Canadians, are to our neighbors south of the border?).

On the show “Life is Worth Losing”, George Carlin helps the audience to self reflect without long tedious lectures and to see themselves from a different perspective. Overall, it is extremely philosophical and entertaining. Though it is debatable is life is worth losing, this record is definitely worth buying.
