Daniel Cirera

Honestly, I Love You, *Cough*

4/5

Key track: Motherf*cker-fake vegetarian ex-girlfriend

Uncensored confessional lyrics and dreamy jazzy music is what Daniel Cirera is all about. On “Honestly, I love you *cough*”, the Swede singer songwriter sings about everything from the fake girl he broke up with to the girl he had always dreamed about, and does so in an ever so amusing and unique fashion.

What you won’t find here is the trite and cliché words heard on every other record released in the past couple of years. Cirera keeps his material original and fresh. Listeners do not need to look too far beyond the titles of his tracks to realize Daniel Cirera is someone who marches to the beats of his own drum. “motherf*cker-fake vegetarian ex-girlfriend”, the album’s opener precisely sums up the artist’s style. With Parental Advisory lyrics and glam rock guitar tracks, the song is truly a masterpiece.

However, one drawback of the record is that at times it is not all that consistent. There are a couple of weak spots on the album that makes it less than perfect. For example, “Why” and “Anarchy in UK” tend to ebb the momentum of the album.

Overall, “Honestly, I love you *cough*” is a successful album and definitely worth investing in.
