Da Backwudz

Wood Work
4/5
Yet another duo from the dirty south has hit the Hip-Hop scene.
Georgia's Da Backwudz consists of Marcus "Big Mark" Thomas and James
"Sho Nuff" Redding. "Wood Work" is their debut album, the duo are
signed to record producer Dallas Austin's Rowdy Records.
Southern rappers are usually known for their catchy beats and a
certain swagger when it comes to their rhymes, you also can't forget
their accent which takes Hip-Hop slang to a whole different level.
"Wood Work" has rhythms that could rival any east/west coast rapper
with an added Southern twist.
"You Gonna Love Me" samples Jennifer Holiday's "And I'm Telling You
I'm Not Going." There is also a remix on the album which features Nas
and Slim Thug. A good song to sample, you won't be able to get it out
of your head.
"I Don't Like The Look Of It," samples the "Oompa Loompa" song from
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. One of those songs you either love
or get extremely annoyed with.
"The World Could Be Yours" samples yet another song, Marvin Gaye's "If
The World Were Mine," and it's about a relationship that falls apart
right before fame hits. "The world could be yours/ but you messed it
all up/ 'cause you got me all fed up/my patience been used all up."
Other songs that are worth a listen would be the pimptastic
"Fantastic" and "Lock N Load" which has a rock vibe. And there is
nothing I like better than a Rock and Hip-Hop mash up! Da Back Wudz do
a good job with their debut, Ying Yang twins watch out!
Key Tracks: You Gonna Love Me (remix,) I Don't like the Look of It,
The World Could Be Yours, Fantastic, Lock N Load.
