Cute Is What We Aim For

Rotation

3/5

Rotation is a step forward for Cute Is What We Aim For. More lyrically mature, the band are able to express more meaning in each track. Some tracks are still obviously sexual, but lyrically the music shows they are in the process of growing up. In “Practice Makes Perfect,” Shaant sings that he has “become what a mother wouldn’t want in a son,” showing awareness of knowing who he is.

“Navigate Me” is the track closest to their last album. “Marriage To Millions” carries a The Starting Line feel. “Time” “Doctor” is incredibly catchy. “Hollywood” best shows the progression of the band’s maturity.

My only issue with the album is that it sounds more like similar bands than their previous effort, “The Same Old Blood Rush With a New Touch.”

Rotation is not a perfect album, but albums rarely are. It is, however, a "rotation," and an album that will make fans come back for another serving, next time around. Cute Is What We Aim For are definitely aiming for something higher than just cute.
