Coheed and Cambria

Good Apollo, I'm Burning Star IV, Volume One: From Fear Through The Eyes of Madness
2/5
Resisting categorization and definition, this new addition to Coheed and Cambria's multi-album storyline is decent, I suppose, with some notable guitar-layering and melodious flow, but the lyrics are hard to catch, which makes the album somewhat uninspiring to listen to.
To find the lyrics, I turn to the CD cover-booklet filled with disturbing (though skilled) representational artworks of death and demise. I found it hard to appreciate their lyrics, which are repetitive and slightly repulsive in nature, mostly along the subject lines of …
"I thought you loved me, but you don't; I hope you die."
The tunes also seem analogous after a while, but the dreariness was interspersed with sporadic guitar solos that were more exciting and made up for the soft yet harsh voice of lead singer, Claudio Sanchez.
A skilled band? Sure; but not one to become a favourite of the masses, I daresay.
