Key Tracks: Run It!, Ya Man Ain't Me, Poppin'
You've all heard "Run It!" featuring Juelz Santana all over the airwaves, but for those who don't already know, this guy's 16! His first album (self-titled) has very decent producing, however, it only has one hit single…which makes one wonder… will he be releasing another album in the near future? Or will "Run It", like Mario's "Let Me Love You", be only another one-hit-wonder?
I guess Chris Brown could be compared to Usher, minus the funky dance steps and sunglasses. This album makes hardly sets him apart from other rap/R&B artists who've pulled off a number one hit. The album contains enough beats you carry through the 15 tracks (the last is a "Thank You"), but not enough to push you to hit "repeat".
The very first track after the Intro is "Run It!" and leaves the excited listener ready for more pounding dance music, but almost all the following songs are slow and melodious and…rather tedious after the next 5 or so tracks. "Yo (Excuse Me Miss)" is an easygoing track about approaching a beautiful woman at a party and "Young Love" is a wonderful rhythmic tune that is sappy and sweet, but could probably climb the charts if it's ever giving the chance of radio.
For a soothing R&B track, this is a great selection, but don't buy it hoping to find more "Run It!"-like hit songs.
