Cassie
Self- Titled
3/5
You are probably familiar with Cassie because of the ongoing robust
request for her chart topping single "Me & U." This self-titled CD is full
of soft, slow, melodious tracks which settled Cassie as a more low-pitched,
monotonous R&B artist, without having much note span that goes beyond a C.
Nevertheless, the young artist still established her own style and scored
more groupies than any of her contemporaries. Not only that, this album
proved Cassie's unchangeable musical persona. For those that only
heard the killer track "Me & U", the rest of the songs on this album do not
differ in style nor in the overall rhythmic theme. For instance, one of the two
follow-up hits "Long Way 2 Go" confines to a gentle but constant beat with a
general hum-drum like voice. The curtly titled hit like "Ditto" is a faster
and more spirited track with a tint of pop added to it's
rhythmic component, enough to get one bobbing to the beat.
Cassie's unique style and minimum exploitation to anything beyond her
scope of character is what makes this album so "Cassie."
