Boom Boom Satellite

Full of Elevating Pleasures

4/5

It’s not pop, rock, metal, screamo, emo, punk, techno, rap, nor hip hop. It is simply impossible to categorize Boom Boom Satellite’s sound with an American rubric. Some say that the Japanese duo’s music is a mash up of all existing genres, but that would just be a euphemism for putting the worst of music on one disc.

Upon my first listen of Boom Boom Satellite’s latest record, “Full of Elevating Pleasures”, I had trouble putting my thoughts into words. While the opening track “Rise and fall” is half decent despite its over mixed tune, the next few tracks can be described as nothing but revolting noises mixed together. The discord of the record varies from track to track. Songs such as “Moment I Count on”, and “Dive for You” are just plain bad music, and songs like “Spine” could easily cause ear injuries if not listened with caution.

I was never a fan of Boom Boom Satellite, and after listening to “Full of Elevating Pleasures”, I am sure I never will become one. Although the duo insists that their music is the amalgamating of all the styles, their material will hardly ever appeal to fans of any genre.
