August Rush

Soundtrack
4/5
Any cd that has a couple of tracks by Kaki King is already worth the listen. Throw in bits of John Legend, Chris Botti, John Ondrasik and actor Jonathan Rhys Meyers surprisingly flexing his vocal talents in some of the tracks and you have a soundtrack cd that is worth keeping.
Like the movie, the soundtrack is a musical journey and discovery of sorts. The music moves from orchestral movements to jazz and soul with a decent helping of alternative folk that manages to keep one entertained than bored. Even if you didn’t see the movie, you can get an overall sense of triumph from adversity through the song selections.
Leon Thomas III’s version of “La Bamba” and Jonathan Rhys Meyers singing a haunting version of “Moondance” are definite high points. Other songs of note include “King of the Earth” and “This Time”. And did I say that Kaki King played guitar in a couple of instrumental tracks notably “Bari Improv” and “Ritual Dance”. That’s the price of admission right there..
