All Hours
In Flagrante Delicto
2.5/5
You’d almost expect a CD titled "In
Flagrante Delicto" to have an edgy, risqué
sound; however, the debut CD of this name by Hollywood
based pop rock outfit All Hours very quickly proves
to never judge a book by its cover … or a
CD by its title. Instead, listeners will be surprised
by very polished, predictable tunes that blend into
the background way too easily. And it’s not
that the twelve tracks on this musical offering
are necessarily bad, they’re just not remarkable.
Front man Gilly Leads has a good voice, although
it sometimes has a tendency to sound like Jakob
Dylan (of the Wallflowers), or on some tracks, Royston
Langdon (of Spacehog). There just isn’t anything
distinctive about the band’s sound or style,
and the songs seem to have been overproduced to
a point where they may have lost anything that would
have given them the edge that could have set them
apart from dozens of other similar bands. All Hours
has potential, and it’s inevitable that the
toe-tapping “Make it Right” or ballad
“Hurricane” end up in rotation on “hot
adult contemporary” stations across North
America. As a whole, "In Flagrante Delicto"
would best suit a mellow evening at home with friends.
