311

By:Debbie

popYOUlarity.com:Talk about: Whiskey and Wine
SA: That song I was working on it late at night and everything about it, the whole vibe of it, the track, and lyrics. Everything just fit the time of day I was working in it. It is a sad song really, but it was something that felt right at the time and something that had to be expressed. It is definitely dealing with a personal issue. It was something that I wanted to communicate on some level. It was fitting; everything just kind of lined up, fell into place.

popYOUlarity.com:What about: Thank Your Lucky Stars
SA:That one actually came about around the Super Bowl. We were at Chad’s house and I remember we were in his basement where his studio was located. They came up with this ideal for the melody and verse. He sang that and then the chorus came. A few days prior I had been at home and had been thinking of some ideas for it. During the Super Bowl half time we were down in the basement playing it and the chorus came up and I sang my idea. For that song it kind of just happened around that time and then we stated getting lyrical ideas shortly there after. That song definitely deals with some things that have been going on in the world today. A lot of the perception that is being pushed on everyone and a lot of misconceptions. That song is just really speaking from the heart and saying that this is so tired and so sick. It just how we deal with it.

popYOUlarity.com:What was your main inspiration for this album? How would you rank this album amongst your others? --Skyler Beene, Austin, TX
SA: We push each other. I think we come to rehearsals and we have our ideas and we share them. I think the inspiration for the album was each other. Everyone stepping up and bringing the best that they have and really working on it and getting it across. Us pushing each other was the inspiration behind the album. As far as how it ranks, in my eyes I think it ranks right up there with any of our previous releases. I really like this album a lot. I think its got a lot to say and I think our fans will feel the same way.

popYOUlarity.com:Any low point where you felt used by the big music hype machine?
SA:No, I don’t think we’ve ever been over hyped. Maybe for a brief period of our career there was a little over saturation of 311, but for the most part I don’t think we are over saturated in the media. I think any hype that is generated is generally from our fans. If anything there is a lack of hype.

popYOUlarity.com:Of these four areas, what has you the most baffled or confused and why? : Michael Jackson, World Affairs, religion or relationships?
SA:Obviously relationships. It takes work to make any relationship work. Once you think you have something figured out, you really don’t. The way I look at it you just try to get a good inkling or indicator. You try to work within a dynamic and understanding the dynamic is really important too. Being able to listen is hard sometimes, but it is important. So, yea I think relationships take the most work.

popYOUlarity.com:As with all great things, one day Jerry Springer will cease to exist. So... What/who would be on the ultimate Jerry Springer finale show?
SA: Disappearing into obscurity.

popYOUlarity.com:What is the first thing you notice about someone when they walk into a room?
SA: Their hair.

popYOUlarity.com:Would you rather have a hot single and never be heard from again or have slow but steady your whole career?
SA: Well, the career. I would always go for the career

popYOUlarity.com:When were you rejected – by another person, by an employer, not granted an opportunity to do something – and in hindsight, you are happy that you didn’t have that experience? What were you rejected from?
SA: There was a writing contest I didn’t place in. Had I placed I might have thought I was the best and moved on and not become part of 311.

popYOUlarity.com:What are the four things you would most need if you have been taken hostage at a 7—11?
SA: My wife, 2 dogs and my 'i pod' with speakers.

popYOUlarity.com:What is the one thing in the world that has always and always will drive you absolutely crazy?
SA: Ignorance!

popYOUlarity.com:What great fear have you overcome that has allowed you to live a better life? Or is there a fear you would like to overcome?
SA: I haven’t jumped out of a plane. Given the chance I don’t know if I would, but I would like to do that, so skydive.

popYOUlarity.com:Is freedom to be whoever you want to be and to become whatever you desire the greatest thing about living, or is it something else?
SA: I think yes, it is definitely up there. Having opportunities and being able to pursue them and having the freedom to do that and to enjoy your work.

popYOUlarity.com:What is the one thing that you can take a look at or close your eyes and visualize that makes you feel that everything is going to be all right when things aren’t going so well for you?
SA: My dogs

popYOUlarity.com:Do you have anything you would like to say to the readers of popYOUlarity.com?
SA: I’ll say this. Being unpopular, that’s okay!
